Volunteering Essentials

In 2004, 6.3 million Australians over the age of 18 years were active volunteers, dontaing on average 132 hours per year of their time.

Volunteering is recognised as providing significant economic advantage to communities, as well as contributing to development of social capital. It is also an opportunity to enliven and invigorate an organisation and can contribute to improvide morale and organisational performance.

People are motivated to volunteer for a variety of different reasons. These may include a wish to be of service to the community, personal satisfaction, for social contact, to gain new skils or to gain work experience.

Interestingly, most people who don't currently volunteer say they would if they were asked. Therefore the question remains -how do we attract and retain these potential volunteers?

This website will cover some of the "Volunteering Essentials" to assist in volunteer management.
